As if UH-Hilo’s first five-set volleyball contest of the season didn’t provide enough drama, the Vulcans had to fight off four-match points Sunday at Dominican.

Imagine what the rest of the road trip will offer?

After two hours and 15 minutes, UHH finally downed the Penguins, 25-22, 22-25, 21-25, 25-14, 19-17 in San Rafael, Calif.

The Vulcans (6-7, 3-4 Pacific West Conference) were led by Siera Green (13 kills, five blocks), Kiley Davis (12 kills, nine blocks) and Randi Hunter (12 kills).

The Penguins (4-11, 3-4) held four leads after Hunter’s kill tied Game 5 13-13.

The Vulcans had the answer each time, getting two kills from Hunter and once apiece from Basia Sauni and Green.

A Dominican error gave UHH match point, and Lucee Fitzgerald put down the aloha ball.

The Vulcans make a quick turnaround and visit Notre Dame de Namur on Monday, their second match in a span that sees them play on four consecutive days.
